Khang and Charlie Allen decided to build their home in Vieques over 25 years ago after their first visit to the island. Khang fell in love with how the island reminded her of her home in Vietnam and the rest is basically history. Decades later, the Allen’s have been on a continuous mission to improve and update the house. In just 2016 and 2017, they remodeled and expanded the lower level into a larger apartment rental with a 40 yard concrete driveway, parking flat, and a beautiful elevated deck to completely wrap around to the upper driveway. Further improvements included updating high end appliances, security systems, and an industrial generator for the rare island power outages.
They spend several months out of the year on the island, with the rest of the months traveling between Vietnam and Virginia. Their favorites things about the island? Swimming at Caracas (formerly Red Beach) or Sun Bay every afternoon and making the house exactly how they want it…which seems to always be changing for the better.
